Sometimes I feel like the grocery store is out of control. And I’m not just talking about prices. I’m talking about the number of items available. Companies just will not stop coming up with things. In the past week alone, I’ve seen Cinnamon Toast Crunch Hershey Kisses, Butterbeer Goldfish, bunny-shaped Reese’s Puffs, and PB&J M&Ms. Why are they doing a Harry Potter Goldfish crossover in 2025? How many versions of Hershey Kisses do we need?? Does anyone even eat those plain?! Who is coming up with all these ideas? And who is purchasing them??
Well, *I’m* buying the PB&J M&M’s I guess. Of all the options, they make at least some sense, and I had some immediate inspiration. Also, it’s in my contract to buy PB&J things when I see them. It’s a surprisingly underrepresented flavor combo amidst all of the various trends lining the grocery store aisles.
And one of the most obvious ways to use M&M’s is in monster cookies! And since M&M corporation is leaning into PB&J, I figured the whole cookie should be PB&J, so I added some freeze dried strawberries to the PB-oat cookie base. The base recipe for this was also the Levain recipe, to make sure they were nice and dense. As monster cookies should be!! But, I didn’t make these monster-sized, because… I have to be reasonable. And I brought these into work.
My brother in law said that these “knocked it out of the park,” so I will take that review and run with it! They really were quite yummy. The PB&J M&M’s are mildly artificial tasting… but only in the way that Smucker’s jelly is sometimes artificial tasting, you know? I wouldn’t want to eat them plain, but that’s mainly because I’ve recently discovered that peanut butter M&M’s are quite good (iykyk). So if I’m in a position to be eating plain M&M’s, I’d want it to be those.
These are bright and colorful cookies with the M&M’s and strawberry bits poking out, but… at the same time they’re a bit homely when you really look at them. But perhaps that’s just how monster cookies are. And who cares what they look like when they taste good.
