Long time no post! It’s been a busy few months – first it was Coachella, then a week later my siblings were in town for my birthday week. Then my car got totalled on my birthday! And then I took a weekend trip to Minnesota to celebrate my 21st birthday two years later! Then it took a few weeks just to get back to reality, and I’ve been working on a few posts at once throughout these crazy few weeks. I just haven’t been able to finish and post them because there’s been a lot going on. But that’s the beauty of having this blog be lower stress now! I can take breaks when life gets hectic!
The idea for this milkshake came about when my siblings were in town. We did a little sampling of some mini flavored whiskey bottles I have on my bar cart. There were some… interesting flavors (banan whiskey is just… unnecessary). But the best flavor by far was the Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey. It tasted so intensely of peanut butter cookie. And as we were trying them all, we were trying to brainstorm drinks you could use it in. I couldn’t really think of any traditionally whiskey based drinks that it would work in (maybe an old fashioned with some sort of berry instead of orange? Maybe some sort of fall cinnamon whiskey thing?), but we agreed that the sweetness and dessert-like nature of the whiskey would lend itself to a dessert-like drink. Enter: milkshake.
I decided on a vanilla base so that the flavor of the whiskey could really come through. Chocolate would likely cover it up too much. And then it was just a matter of adding texture to make it interesting. Enter: peanut butter cookies. And then I thought… why not make this as ridiulous as possible. So I added a peanut butter cookie rim (like lime and salt, but with peanut butter and crumbled peanut butter cookies) because… obviously.
This really is the most insane drink/dessert possible. I drank about half and called it a day, so definitely best for sharing. But it sure was delicious! A fun summer evening treat.
PrintA Ridiculous Peanut Butter Whiskey Milkshake
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups ice cream
- 1 generous shot (2 ounces) of peanut butter whiskey (I think Screwball is best, but there’s options out there)
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter (crunchy or smooth, your choice), plus extra for the glass
- Whipped cream
- Mini Reese’s Cups, chopped
- Homemade peanut butter cookies:
- 1 cup pb (crunchy of smooth, your choice)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
Instructions
Make homemade peanut butter cookies first:
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
-
Blend together the peanut butter, white sugar and egg until smooth.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Overbaking is okay, because a little crunch makes them easier to crumble. Let cool completely before using in the milkshake.
Decorate you glass (if you’re feeling ridiculous):
- Use a spoon or knife to line your rim of your glass with peanut butter.
- Crush up some of the peanut butter cookies and dip the peanut butter coated rim in them. (Think salt on a margarita glass but… all peanut butter.)
For the milkshake:
- Combine ice cream, milk, whiskey, and peanut butter in a blender and blend until it comes together but is still thick. Add some of the crushed cookies and pulse your blender until they are incorporated but you still have some chunks (like cookies n’ cream texture).
- Pour into your prepared cup, and decorate with whipped cream and chopped Reese’s. Enjoy!
